Hospital Unimed Volta Redonda ensures filmless radiology with MV solutions

RIS and PACS integrated to other MV solutions allow for the combination of test images and the patient's clinical data

In Health, the investment direction for purchasing advanced equipment is often a priority in relation to the implementation of solutions for storing and analyzing data. However, the managers of Health institutions must be aware of the fact that in order to increase efficiency and quality when treating patients, the incorporation of the clinical information technology into the hospital processes can't be disregarded.

Since we believe that integrated actions ensure an increasingly assertive and secure treatment, our investment in technologies and process improvement is continuous. In partnership with MV, we will remain in constant evolution when adopting IT in Health.

Developed to capture, store, distribute and display medical images, the Picture Archiving and Communication System, also known as PACS, was the MV solution that facilitated access of radiologist doctors to imaging tests.
Making them digitally available (with multiuser access on web browsers or mobile devices) and in high resolution, the solution introduced in the routine of professionals tools that decrease the chances of error in the diagnosis through the possibility of comparative views, 3D/4D reconstructions, displays in orthogonal planes, etc. The solution also allowed for test imagings and measurements to be saved for attachment to the report and that the 3D reconstruction work remained available for future visualizations.

With the native integration between PACS and MV's Radiology Information System, commonly referred to as RIS and which makes available resources to manage procedures from the scheduling and execution of tests up to the report preparation and result delivery, the communicative process at the hospital's Imaging Diagnosis Center has also obtained as an advantage the association of the image management with other patient data.

PACS, RIS and PEP

The interoperability of the Diagnostic Medicine solutions with other MV solutions, such as the Patient's Electronic Records (PEP), enabled the electronic access of radiologist doctors to the history of patients and the display of test reports and imagings for the hospital doctors.

"When able to check all the applicable information from the electronic records directly on the tool, the doctor gains more speed and security when making decisions", says Vitório Puntel - Vice President of Unimed Volta Redonda and director of Inhouse Resources.

For the patients, among the advantages of digital radiology one can mention: the speed in providing the service, considering that the solution also facilitated the recording of images on CDs and the delivery of the report to patients; and qualified service with comprehensive analysis of the health situation based on the combination of test images and clinical data.

Relying on IT to increase productivity and efficiency, the Imaging Diagnosis Center of Hospital Unimed Volta Redonda adopted more recently a voice recognition resource in RIS. With it, the report preparation dictated by means of audio recording started being a part of the doctors' routine, who are also used to analyzing exams outside the hospital with the process of digitizing medical orders via RIS.

According to Puntel, "since we believe that integrated actions ensure an increasingly assertive and secure treatment, our investment in technologies and process improvement is continuous. In partnership with MV, we will remain in constant evolution in adopting IT in Health".
